Wedding Highlight: Emily & Chris
Emily and Chris met at the beginning of the pandemic after Emily’s friend took her phone, started swiping right on guys who caught her eye, and began conversations with some of them, all while impersonating Emily. After narrowing it down a bit she handed the phone back to Emily and said, “here, I like this one”. And “this one” was Chris.
These two were a delight to work with! Emily and Chris had decided that they wanted to truly enjoy their own wedding and not stress about pleasing everyone else, and they stuck to that decision. They chose an intimate venue with a gorgeous downtown view, hired a great team of vendors, and prioritized the things they really cared about. They only had close family members present and truly made it “theirs”.
Because the guests consisted of people who already knew them and their story they didn’t want the ceremony to just repeat things about them that everyone had already heard, so we talked about how we would write their love story in an original way. I also asked them to tell me whatever stories they wanted to and we would make it amazing!
One of my favorite anecdotes was from when Chris met Emily’s dog. When Emily adopted Atlas it was clear that this poor pup had a history of abuse, and he had a very difficult time with any men in Emily’s life. In fact, he had already foiled several dating attempts before she met Chris! Emily told me that her mom used to joke that they would know a man was “the one” when Atlas accepted him, to which Emily would immediately respond, “well I guess I’m never getting married, then!” So when Atlas let Chris pet him after just two weeks of seeing each other, Emily was understandably floored. After seeing Atlas open up to Chris so quickly, Emily joked with friends that, "Atlas likes him, so I guess I've got to marry him!". And as it turned out, that was exactly the case, and Atlas is an excellent judge of character.
Overall, I was super impressed by the way they had carefully planned everything so that they could celebrate their love and have a wonderful and special evening with the people closest to them. As someone who loves to plan parties, but who often gets caught up in worrying about what people will expect or want to the point that I’m too stressed to enjoy myself, I had a lot of respect for their deliberateness and clear-mindedness around their goals. Congratulations, Emily and Chris!
P.s. I LOVED the matching octopus socks.
